Austria & Hungary

The heart of Europe Austria and Hungary are landlocked with Continental climates giving hot summers and cold winters, perfect for wine production.  Austria is most notable for Gruner Veltliner and aromatic whites along the Danube River but also able to make some of Europe's best Eiswein on the shores of the large Neusiedlersee lake.  Moving to the south Bergenland is home to Blaufrankish, St. Laurent and Zweigelt and producers like Judith Beck who creates brilliant wines from native grapes.  Moving over the border into Hungary Tokaj is the most notable region and the oldest classifies wine region in the world!  Here find sparkling wines, still wines and some of the best sweet wines of the world made from Botrytis infected grapes.
