If you ever needed the opportunity to drink possibly one of the greatest dessert wines in the world, here it is.  Chateau Dereszla Tokaji Imperium Aszúeszencia 2000 is that exceptional exceptional sweet wine!

The term Aszú Eszencia has been recorded since the early 19th century. It was introduced as an official quality level in the 1970s but then removed again in 2009. These wines are only made in the greatest years, making this 2000 vintage one of on 2 produced in the past 22 years.

Production

Dried, noble-rot-affected grapes are hand-picked from Chateau Dereszla’s best vineyards and made into a paste which is then added to a dry base wine. Unlike Tokaji Aszú, the residual sugar content of these wines far exceeds 180g/l, with the content of this particular wine weighing in at 252g/l, always balanced by an elegant acidity. After 14 days of fermentation this wine was aged in French oak barrels for more than 2 years.

Each bottle comes in a beautiful gift box with the bottle label, replicating one designed by Carl Fabergé in 1907 for Dereszla’s Centenial celebration.  Produced only in the best years, this outstanding wine is a rare find and one to snap up before it disappears.

Tokaji Imperium Aszúeszencia 2000

A rich and complex profile of fresh apricot, marmalade, vanilla and spices. The vivid acidity is the perfect harmony with the residual sugar content and syrupy texture. A unique and indulgent wine to accompany dark chocolate desserts, plentiful cheese boards and rich pâtés. 94. Wine Spectator
