Domaine Sylvain Bzikot, Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2021

Sylvain considers this to be one of his top wines, and I know someone who has served it blind against a Leflaive PM and seen most people prefer it.  This edition is simply breathtaking! Rich, generous aromas of ripe orchard fruits, tangerine, fresh butter and toasted nuts get a pretty accent of chalky mineral and crushed mint.  In the mouth, this envelops your palate like a great Batard Montrachet, and if the weight isn’t quite at that level, the texture – silky, creamy, deep – is very close.  Rich, long, and bursting with layer after layer of fruit, nut, spice, mint and mineral flavours. This is almost too beautiful - an absolute stunner.

The Perries 1er Cru raises the game a couple of notches from his village Puligny, with its finely-constructed palate and smoky, stony, mineral quality reflected on the nose. Terrific purity expressed here from the outset.
