From Winemaker Sheree Nothnagel at Riebeek Valley Wines in Swartland, South Africa, comes the RAAR Shiraz Carbonic Maceration 2023. Winemag.co.za has just awarded this Shiraz 96/100 points and it was also awarded BEST OVERALL SHIRAZ in their Prescient Shiraz Report. With only four 500 litre barrels produced this wine is most definitely something special...and there are only 240 bottles coming over to the UK so grab a bottle of this delicious wine while you can!

A unique intra-cellular fermentation was encouraged by covering 100% hand-harvested, whole bunch Shiraz clusters with carbon dioxide, twice daily for 10 days, followed by a light foot pressing, just enough to allow pump-overs. Wild fermentation until dry was followed by a further 10 days of extended skin contact before pressing and then barrel matured in 500L older French oak.

Brilliant bright red fruit with a hint of warm spice. A firm acidity, balanced with velvety, supple tannin. Showcases the playful side of Swartland Shiraz.
