On the nose, this wine is intense and profound with aromas of black fruit and a peppery bouquet. In the mouth, it is spicy and slightly acidic and fresh. Because of its youthfulness and its dynamism, this wine is best kept for several months in order to fully appreciate its character. It is a marvellous accompaniment for fine charcouterie and red meats. Equally perfect with cheese, our red Macon wine goes extremely well with summer salads.
Fourth and fifth generation vignerons, Patrick and Nicolas Laugere took over the estate from their uncle, Marcel, in 1987. In addition to the vineyards they also inherited the cadole, or stone vigneron shelter, which overlooks the vineyards. This particular shelter is situated on top of an underground river, and a pit dug into the ground inside the shelter provides a constant source of water for the vine during times of drought.
This expressive Gamay comes from 30-50 year old vines grown on a very rocky plateau dominating the village of Champvent. Growing Gamay has returned almost secretly to this part of the Maconnais region where Chardonnay dominates the landscape by more than 90%. All is organic on the estate and the grapes are manually harvested.
A place name common in Burgundy, the notion of “Perrières” is a complete and explicit indication of the nature of the soil. It is also here that the vineyard adjoins the rocky track along the crest that was regularly frequented by men and their working animals.
100% Gamay.
