Kumeu River Mates Chardonnay 2022

Kumeu River is considered one of the best producers of Chardonnay in New Zealand.

Mate’s Vineyard bottle is named after Maté Brajkovich, one of the sons of the original landowners. In 1990 Maté planted new Chardonnay – the grapes from these vines were harvested one year after his death, in 1993. And in 1994, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the family’s life on the Kumeu River, the wines were released for sale.

Jancis Robinson has referred to this wine as ‘New Zealand Chardonnay at its finest’. Who are we to argue? Creamy on the palate, with an amazingly long and persistent finish, and yet has a great balance with bright notes of citrus and zesty acidity.

Food pairing suggestion: Roast pork tenderloin with maple rosemary glaze.
