Domaine de la Chaponne, Morgon Cote du Py 2020

Tremendous stuff from Laurent Guillet, a keen young grower with superbly situated vines. Very fragrant, packed with bright soft cherry fruit that drinks well young or equally matures impressively in the medium term.

This family owned domaine is run by Laurent (a star of the region) and Laurence Guillet, making almost entirely Morgon along with a little Chiroubles. From 50-60 year old vines grown on firm, stony soils in the renowned hillside parcel of the Cote du Py, the wine is fragrant, full of ripe soft cherry fruit, delicious when young but without enough depth and structure (aided by eight months ageing in vats and oak foudres) to mature for several more years.
