Adunatio Bio Rouge is made using biodynamic farming methods, which prioritize the natural rhythms and cycles of the vineyard to produce wines that are truly expressive of their terroir. This approach yields a wine with intense aromas of dark fruit, black pepper, and spices, along with notes of violet and liquorice.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and complex, with flavours of blackberry, plum, and cherry, complemented by hints of chocolate and vanilla. The tannins are firm and well-structured, giving the wine a long and satisfying finish. A versatile wine that pairs beautifully with many dishes, including grilled meats, stews, and roasted vegetables.

From one of the oldest companies in the Rhone Valley, with roots dating back to 1808, today the winery is driven by Michel Chapoutier – the biodynamic pioneer of the region. Cotes du Rhone Collection Adunatio Bio Rouge is an exceptional red wine that reflects the expertise and passion of the renowned winemakers at Chapoutier. This wine is crafted from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes, carefully selected from the Villafranchian terraces (smooth round pebbles) located in the Gard, at the crossroads of the Papal Palace in Avignon and the famous Roman aqueduct “Le Pont du Gard”.

Since 1991, Chapoutier have worked tirelessly to convert to biodynamic viticulture. Their vine growing philosophy is first of all about observing, noticing and acting. Some agricultural methods erode the soils and weaken them, they stifle biological life regardless of how important it is. This observation led us to take a stand and place biodynamics at the heart of our philosophy.

Chemical pesticides and herbicides are banned. They have introduced natural elements (minerals, plants, animals) to preserve balance. The soil is fed with organic matter; thus it preserves bacteria which is the real ‘Mother’ of the vine and will transform mineral into vegetal. This precious bacterium transmits the personality of the terroir to the vine and ultimately the wine. Biodynamics is also about understanding the cycles of the earth, the sun and the moon. From these observations we take crucial decisions: when to prune, when to harvest. Yields are respected and each terroir offers its pure essence.

Today, Chapoutier holds a number of international certificates and organic standards including Demeter and Ecocert, alongside ISO 9001 and BRC accreditations.

    Chapoutier Adunatio Rhône (red)

Posted by MarkP on 19th Aug 2023

For those who don't know, Chapoutier is one of the very top French wine makers. Its home is the Rhône, and this wine is a really good entry level red. Table wine, yes, but excellent, and reasonably priced. It is not a prestige wine, but it's great.
