Germany
Having shaken off the shackles of the reputation of poor quality in the 1980's, German wine has come on leaps and bounds in the last thirty years. Fine sparkling wines, Riesling, elegant Pinot Noir, fresh Pinot Grigio (the ripe Pinot Gris style) or highly aromatic varieties such as Müller-Thurgau are also making their mark. Germany has x13 regions of quality, 6 of which are along the river Rhine and its tributaries. Most famous is the Mosel with its fairy tale like castles and elegant Rieslings but Pfalz, Rhine Hessen, Franken are also quality focused regions of interest.
