This small-batch bourbon comes courtesy of the Willet Distillery, in Kentucky. The Old Bardstown brand takes its name from a famous racecourse; it offers lavender and caramel notes, and at 45% abv, it’s brawny enough to stand up to a range of cocktails and it's just the thing to have in your drinks cupboard for whenever an Old Fashioned might be in order.
With a mashbill of 72% corn, 15% malted barley, and 13% rye, there's enough mellow spice to keep the buttery sweetness in check. Gentle oak spice, butterscotch, nougat, orange marmaladeon the nose. The palate is rye bread, melted brown sugar, cocoa powder, white flowers, and a waft of menthol, with toffee popcorn, blackberry jam and one last hit of baking spice on the finish.
