Judith Beck Ink, juicy, fresh, biodynamic, Austrian red wine. Ink is a very lively, fresh biodynamic wine from Burgenland in Austria. The Judith Beck winery is based near lake (I can never pronounce it) Neusiedlersee. This is the warmest region of Austria for wine production. They can get some quite big red wines here and many producers beef them up further with new, toasted oak and go for richness and power. Judith Beck Ink is not like that at all! It is a biodynamic beauty with a blast of dark fruits, spices and fresh, springy juiciness that leaps from the glass on the nose and hits the palate like a mouthful of summer berries. There are no oaky flavours in Ink although some time in large barrels is spent in the maturation. This biodynamic red from Judith Beck is for natural summer quaffing and it is perfect for that!

Winery Judith Beck is a 15 hectare estate in Gols in Austria's Burgenland which has been farming biodynamically since 2007, aiming to respect the environment and produce the best quality grapes, using native Austrian varieties. Judith Beck herself studied abroad at places like Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux and Errazuriz in Chile but returned home to take over from her father and move the winery in the direction of natural winemaking. They encourage the formation of humus as a basis of healthy soils, using their own natural composts and cultivating grass between the rows. Herbal remedies are also used and the vines are maintained under the rhythms of the moon. In order to produce authentic wines, they also avoid inoculated yeasts of any kind, and minimise sulphur, fining or filtration, with her Bambule! range epitomising this philosophy.
