As always with our Madeleine our philosophy is to allow the varietal to express its self. 2018 was an exceptional vintage, resulting in very ripe Madeleine angevine. Typically a very floral variety, however given the warmth of 2018 it is more fruit forward. This Madeleine displays subtle pear, melon and peach aromas. The palate is dry, but very well balanced, showing delicate ripe apple and citrus flavours.
Winemakers Notes:
2018 was the 'perfect year' for growing grapes. The season was warm and dry resulting in excellent ripeness levels. Madeleine angevine is usually very light and floral in a typical year. Due to the warm weather of 2018 this Madeleine shows a little more weight and body, plus show less of the floral side we tend to associate with the variety and more fruit. It is interesting to compare the 2017 to the 2018 as they could not look more different!
The Madeleine was harvested on the 20th of September by hand. It was gently pressed and cool fermented, a very small proportion in 3rd fill french oak barrels. After fermentation the barrels were blended back with the tank Madeleine, it was aged on the lees for 10 months before being coarsely filtered and bottled.
