There are cheaper Beaujolais wines around, but this [2019] is a step up in seriousness. The Côte du Py vineyard, with its schist-based soils, produces wines of intensity and power. There's a generosity of fleshy red plum fruit here, but also structure and a streak of minerality. You could safely lay this down for a few years. (Amy Wislocki, Decanter.com)
Jean Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py is an astonishingly well made and vibrant Cru Beaujolais wine. This Morgon demonstrates the versatility of the Gamay grape though richly assertive with fabulously deep, dark cherry and plum flavours and a long, savoury finish, it remains freshly mineral on the palate. Exciting now, but will improve with age.
Jean Marc Burgaud is a top Beaujolais grower, claimed by many to be the best producer in Morgon. Jean-Marc comes from a family of winemakers, and his own career in the industry began in 1989 after he completed a diploma in oenology.
Jean-Marc is not certified organic, but his philosophy is both traditional and manual. He hasn’t used chemical insecticide for 10 years, and only once in that time has he been forced by the vintage to resort to using a non-organic product in the vineyard.
This is the most typical wine of this appellation, thanks to its rich soil of blue stones coming from the disintegration of schist. http://www.jean-marc-burgaud.com/new/lang/en/category/domaine
The Morgon « Côte du Py » is full bodied and tannic. The long maceration of the whole grape results in a powerful wine which improves over the years, giving a ripe stone-fruit fragrance on the nose like kirsch. Bottled in spring, it is necessary to be patient for it to develop its full potential. The wines are vinified with whole bunches. His best wine is his Morgon Cote du Py where he works 8 hectares. Dense dark colour, quite massive and very backward. Huge tension to this, with lovely minerals. Small dark berries, amazing finish – huge concentration.
Healthy glowing crimson - much deeper than most Beaujolais - oozing with youthful seductive fruit but promising a glorious future. Difficult to resist now but I`d be in [no] hurry to drink this. There is a strong mineral streak as well as the pure, Gamay gloss on the palate. It really coats the palate in the most delightful way.Healthy glowing crimson - much deeper than most Beaujolais - oozing with youthful seductive fruit but promising a glorious future.
