This Montepulciano punches well above its weight with rich and complex notes of dark cherries, ripe red fruits, plums, spices, almonds and a long, mineral finish.
Fratelli Barba is an old traditional family estate based in the Abruzzo region, known for their mixed farming and produce such as olives, dairy, wheat and pretty wonderful examples of Montepulciano. The 60 hectares of vineyards, planted on the hillier sections of the regions above the coastal floodplain offer ideal growing conditions for the grapes, thanks to Abruzzo’s warm Mediterranean climate and the sandy loam soils here. Giovanni Barba has invested substantially in the winery over recent decades, which now feature state-of-the-art stainless steel interiors. In the hands of master winemaker Stefano Chioccioli, for almost 30 years, Fratelli Barba has produced honest wines that offer exceptional value for money, which have been commended widely by critics and Vivino users alike.
