Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini, Gevrey Chambertin Clos Village 2020

On pouring, the wine shows a deep ruby hue with garnet tinges. The nose is floral and spicy, violet and rose petals sit alongside plum, warm earth and a gentle note of liquorice. Mid-palate the texture is refined, with succulent dark strawberry and juicier black cherry flavours, layered under subtle herbaceous and crushed stem echoes (50% whole cluster). Tannins are supple yet firm, framing the fruit without overwhelming. There’s refreshing acidity that lifts the plush core, carrying into a lingering finish scented with spice and faint minerality. This is generous but still elegant, ready to enjoy now, with further polish by 2028-30.

Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini is becoming known for its meticulous attention to detail, with every viticultural and winemaking decision the result of considerable research. Many of the vineyards have impressively old vines, ranging from 70 to 90 years old. The estate was certified organic in 2017 and works biodynamically as well.
