The 'Avis de Vin Fort' Bourgueil is made from the Breton's biodynamic vineyards. This light red (technically a clairet but here definitely a red) offers a gorgeous, fragrant expression of Cabernet Franc that has delicate tannins yet bags of flavour. A perfect accompaniment for fish or to take on picnics. On a hot day pop it in the fridge for an hour and drink it chilled.
The Bretons farm 11ha just east of Bourgueil in the village of Restigné. They produce Chinon and Bourgueil, as well as a bit of Vouvray, creating beautifully honest wines. They first introduced biodynamic practices into their viticulture in 1994, after receiving their organic certification in 1991. They have become international icons for the natural wine movement in an area where the climate and soil can make organic viticulture difficult. Catherine and Pierre are two of the hardest working people in the wine business and certainly have an absolute love of the land. This explains why their wines, despite the fact that they are totally natural and unadulterated, are so consistently pure and delicious. Everything is harvest by hand, only indigenous yeasts are allowed, very minimal use of sulphites and each wine is bottled unfiltered.
