Fragrant earth, black raspberries, black cherries and red currant scents with suggestions of mossy bark, bay leaves and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with mineral and earth-laced red and black fruits with firm but silky tannins and a lovely herbal lift on the finish. A perfect expression of its deep-gravel terroir.
Situated 11 kilometres from the city centre of Bordeaux, within the appellation of Pessac-Léognan, Château Olivier is a stunning property dating back to the Middle Ages. The chateau, classified as an historic monument, is one of the oldest properties in the Bordeaux region.
Since the 19th century, the estate has been in the ownership of an old Bordeaux family, the Bethmanns (of German origin). Jean-Jacques de Bethmann is the current owner and Laurent Lebrun the technical director. The 60 hectare vineyard benefits from its wonderful location. Its soil of Garonne Günzian gravel is planted on the higher part with red grape varieties. On the remainder of the plot, richer in clay, white varieties are planted. The red Graves produced are tannic and concentrated. They develop aromas of dark fruits with hints of tobacco and roasted herbs. The wines are well-balanced and very pleasant. This estate is part of the most renowned in its appellation, and it was also classified as a Grand Cru of Graves in 1953.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
