Posted by EWWines on 30th Jun 2023
Nothing tastes better than drinks in the summertime! Wanting some inspiration for Wimbledon friendly drinks suggestions? Whether you are surrounded by friends and family, enjoying a picnic in beautiful natural Cornwall, alfresco dining or just watching the sunset into the Atlantic after a busy active summer's day, our summertime blog will highlight some of our favourite suggestions and hopefully paint a picture to get your imagination going and spark the interest to either try something new or revisit an old favourite!
Please also consider our last blog Pet Nat wines an introduction which we have tried and tested extensively at BBQ’s thus far in 2023 to great success!! Frolic Lost in a Field PET NAT was probably our wine of the summer in 2021 and the 2022 vintage looks set to continue that trend, so get your bottles while our stocks last!!!!
We will look again to the more leftfield areas of our extensive range in this blog and consider more than wine to give you lots of inspiration. We hope you enjoy reading and try our suggestions so which without further ado, we will get straight into:
Trevibban Mill Pink Sparkling Cider
Trevibban Mill are tucked away between EWWines and Padstow. This family ran vineyard was established in 2008 with the vision to produce high quality sparkling & still wine on the coast of Cornwall. Everything is done in house for wine and cider making through to bottling, disgorging and labelling. Trevibban Mill opt for quality and sustainability over production and aim to provide small quantities of characterful wines and ciders in the most resourceful way possible. On the land herbicides are not used at Trevibban Mill, the biodiversity is valued which results from leaving the native flora to flourish. Trevibban Mill’s approach is a simple yet considered one, by working with nature instead of against it. We embrace this ethos at EWWines and think the passion comes across in their entire range, particularly their elegantly dry Sparkling Pink Cider with its summery salmon pink hue – fermented with organic Pinot Noir grape skins for a unique flavour profile and adds said pink hue. We love the aromas of apple skin and delicate red summer berries and fine bubbles of this cider. It is vegan friendly, certified organic and delicious. This is great to enjoy with a BBQ, particularly grilled spicy aubergine, stuffed field mushrooms or butterflied lamb with pomegranate and mint, or just sipping with friends in the sun! We really like this with midweek homemade pizzas alfresco style in the garden. Pauletts Trillians Sparkling Red NV
This award-winning Sparkling red from Clare Valley, Australia is a delicious blend of cooler climate Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from Trillians Hills in Clare Valley, South Australia. It is a deep ruby colour with a lively mousse, yet the savoury and plum aromas and subtle tannins give a lasting impression of elegance and well-balanced restraint. The rich plum and savoury aromas and packed with elegant flavours of spice, plums and berries. Not too oaky and most important, not too sweet. Serve well chilled as an aperitif. Delicious with pates, roast turkey, veal and duck or plum pudding, but we think best serve in your back garden with a great BBQ and lots of friends!
Canned Wines
We are not here to follow the crowd and
our last selection we will group together here.
As we achieve our sustainable goals and push our business forward, it
was fundamental to find alternative products for our customers. Why should quality be compromised when taking
canned wines for example? We have a
range of canned wines which we are proud of that are perfect for summer sipping
or any other time for that matter when a bottle might be the right thing. Highlighting a couple of our favourites. Firstly summer in a can would be Wild Steps
Malbec Rose 250ml. This rose is fashionably pale in colour,
delicate, bright and dry rosé made from organic Malbec grapes grown high up on
vineyards near Mendoza. The intense daytime sun there followed by cold nights provide
a highly desirable mix of winter chill and summer heat enabling the grapes to
slowly attain full maturation and taste whilst preserving that all important
acidity enabling the freshness.
The can's illustration is inspired by the sun-kissed local flowers
and plants and the violet Mendoza sunsets.
These violets go very well with Cornish sunsets too!
We also would love to highlight the Kiss of Wine Wild Dolcetto. Wild is a generous Dolcetto from Piemonte, Italy. All dark red fruits, berries and flowers, it's a wildflower garden in a glass. This canned wine pairs perfectly with pizza, pasta and great company so perfectly in theme for our summer drinks guide!
Many generations of Corrado's family have tended his small Piemonte vineyard, surrounded by picturesque meadows. He usually saves his best wines for friends and family but has set aside a few parcels for us to enjoy in a can.
Thank you very much for reading, we hope you enjoy the start of summertime, whatever you are sipping.
