The second wine of Château Brane Cantenac (2éme Cru Classé) enjoys the same gravelly soils as its big sibling in the heart of the Margaux terroir: it tempers 60% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Cabernet Franc and Carmenère that add depth and flavour dimension to the final wine. Black cherry, cassis and coffee all jump out of the glass, combining with a punchy palate full of dark ripe fruits. There is a touch of tobacco that provides a warming spice to the finish, while silky, ripe tannins create a rich and glossy mouthfeel. This delicious, charming vintage is a wonderful success, offering excellent quality for the price for an introduction to wines of the Margaux appellation!
