An estate that has been run by the same family for several generations, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is situated in the very heart of Burgundy, Gevery Chambertin, home of the prestigious grape variety Pinot Noir. Only natural methods have been used in the vineyards and during vinification. This can lead to the presence of light deposits in the wine which in no way alter the taste or hinder its ageing potential. Quality has soared since brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol converted the Domaine to biodynamic viticulture. In particular, the wines display significantly more depth and concentration than when they took over from their father in the 1990's.
2015 Vintage: Bright red-purple in colour with a classic, fine Pinot nose, there are some spicy touches in the mouth, then deep, vibrant cherry fruit behind, and an excellent, fresh, mineral finish. There is a good grip to this, with more tannins here than in the Beaune, alongside gloriously ripe, balanced fruit.
2016 Vintage: An open nose of alluring black cherries, cream and flower petals gives way to a finely structured palate. The style is rich and deep, with succulent fruit nicely balanced by complex secondary aromas and flavours and an earthiness characteristic of this village. One of the best Gevrey Chambertin village level wines available, and as such this is great value.
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest wine-producing village in Burgundy’s Côte d'Or. Located in the far north of the Côtes de Nuits, the classic style is typically deeper in colour, firmer in body and more tannic in structure than most red Burgundy. While in the past there have been myriad underperformers here, the overall quality is now higher than ever and the best can develop into the most complete and long-lived Pinot Noir in the world.
