This wine is clear and bright with youthful hues. It has intense aromas of fresh citrus fruit, ripe mango, nectarine and grapefruit zest. Refreshing on the palate with aromatic citrus notes and a lively acidity. This wine has a balanced and crisp finish.
Eschewing the traditional high-trained pergolas of the Vinho Verde region, the Azevedo vineyards were devised using a modern cordon-trained system. This ensures better exposure and aeration of the vines, which prevents disease and provides better exposure for the grapes, resulting in riper and healthier fruit at harvest.
Apart from slightly higher than average rainfall during the spring of 2019, precipitation was even throughout the vegetative cycle. Average temperatures were lower than in the previous five years, lengthening the growing season and allowing for perfect balance in the grapes. Harvest occurred slightly later than usual. These conditions resulted in aromatically expressive wines with a fresh profile and balanced acidity
Gentle destemming, crushing and pressing were carried out under the protection of inert gases to prevent oxidation and the juice was clarified to the desired degree. It was then fermented at 16 - 18ºC using native yeast QA23 selected at Quinta de Azevedo. After fermentation the wine remained in stainless steel for three months, during which time the fine lees were stirred regularly.
When Fernando Guedes acquired this historic estate in 1982, he immediately set out to transform it and pioneered the production of quality Vinho Verde. He revolutionised the viticulture by planting 35 hectares of cordon-trained vineyards, rather than the traditional high-trained pergolas, and built a modern winery with state-of-the-art facilities for the production of fresh and elegant wines. Today, winemaker António Braga makes an impressive range of whites, all marked by a signature freshness and pure and precise flavours.
